I have been reading about Hydrogen based fuel cells and the designs for vehicles to use them and it's efficiency. Well people. I am going to break this to you lightly. It is a very inefficient form of energy. Gases are in general. You need to use a liquid. More energy and more efficient. Hydrogen Is harder to store then a liquid and would take heavy 500 (or 5,000) PSI tanks to store it. Plus the cost of production and all that. It wuld cost at least six dollars a kilogram. A kilorgram of hydrogen gets you as far as a gallon of gas. So just imagine paying six dollars a gallon for your gas. You thought the prices where bad now. What I see so far as being the best alternative fuel source is methanol and ethanol. I like the idea of being able to mix gasoline and oil with any ration of alcohol. Alcohol can be made out of pretty much anything and pretty much never going to run out. Though I am curious about the ideas of oil being ambiotic. The earth's life blood and keeps reproducing.
Just look how much more oil has been found lately. We aren't running out! We have found more in the last twenty years then the rest of history easily! We know where more oil is now then we ever have. But that is beside the point. It is still terrible for us to be burning it. If we like breathing anyway. Things like ethanol though. What I worry about is land that is used for growing food for humans and animals starts becoming land to grow food for the production of fuel to keep our machines going while people starve. As I have been reading about this alternative fuel issue, I have realized how not very easy of a thing it is too debate and decide and have realized how uneducated people are on it. Just the whole, "yay it is made from corn so it is good!" mentality. But I am convinced that using a gas is pretty out of the question right now. Liquids are better. They are denser. Carry more energy. Easier to store. Don't need huge pressurized tanks. For a vehicle to carry enough fuel worth carrying of hydrogen, you would need a 2,ooo lb. tank.
It is too much. What sparked me getting into this was a few discussions I had gotten into about this with some hippies. And hippies don't actually learn anything I find. They just have the "it is natural, so it is good" ideas. So now that I am armed with knowledge, I am good to go. I will be damned if a hippie can out do me when it comes to thinking and learning. Anyways, that is all I wanted to post today. I remember things better after I write them down. Makes you think of every individual word when you have to spell it, implanting it into your memory better. I am going to continue to read about this because quite frankly I am fascinated. I reccomend others do it as well. I think we also should be getting power by layering the desert floor with solar panels. But that is a discussion for another time and place. Remember. Liquids. Not gases. Hope you all have a lovely day. Cheers!
